Blepharitis

Anterior Blepharitis is inflammation of the lid margin and may occur when excessive bacteria live on the lids causing crusty flaky skin, clogged oil glands, and sometimes  the bacteria can spill into the eye and cause irritated, dry, itchy eyes. With a microscope your Eye Care Professional will look at your lids, oil glands, tear film, and cornea before making the diagnosis. Chronic Blepharitis may sometimes cause Styes. Blepharitis tends to be worse in Caucasians and those with rosacea. So how do you beat Blepharitis? Try Lid Scrubs and Warm Compresses for a few weeks or until you stop waking up with sticky lids. If the Blepharitis is severe your doctor may give you an antibiotic to kill the bacteria that caused the whole mess in the first place.  For Posterior Blepharitis see Meibomian Gland Dysfunction.
